Ten years ago, we have read "Romeo and Juliet". At that time, we just focused on the plot of the story and ignored the charm of such piece of work. Today when I re-read it, I still have a felling of tremor in my heart and am moved by the faithful love between Romeo and Juliet, especially their spirit of humanism that will never extinguish, as well as the artistic charm of both spoken and written language in the work. The work of Romeo and Juliet is full of humanism, which was lacked in many works, showing high level of thought in this work. Humanism is a concept of living, ideals, values, and a spirit of noble realm, which should be pursed and realized by people in any time, thus it is eternal. Today, human have entered into the 21st century, the material civilization has reached a very high level, but the fast development of material civilization does not mean the homologous exaltation of spiritual civilization; On the contrary, egoism, utilitarianism, mammonism and so on are corrading the spiritual life of mankind at a large scale. Romeo and Juliet`s persistent pursuit for the spirit of humanism shows their dignity and worth as human beings, which is also the exciting place of the play. What Are Produced? links of london charms
In Shakespeare's first creating period, he wrote nearly 10 comdies and 1 tragedy. You Know What? I Bought a Popular Abercrombie & Fitch for My Mother at a Very Low Price His comdies mainly express the dreams of humanists, praising love and friendship, claiming the liberation of character, the freedom of marriage and the right of individuals to pursue thier own meaure of happiness. At the same time, he critisized various performances of feudal hierarchy, feudal morality and feudal pressure. He also revealed the ugly sides of the capitalism.Comdies of this kind are A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It and so on. "Romeo and Juliet" created in1595 is the only tragedy in this period, but in the ideological connotation, it is exactly the same with the comedy in this period. Romeo and Juliet tragically died for love, but their love is so pure and beautiful, which has finally overcome the feudal oppression and prejudice and demonstrated the dynamic life of the spirit of humanism and the final victory. The humanism is the soul of Romeo And Juliet. The lasting artistic charm of this play is due to the humanism fully laden in it.
Through dramatic ups and downs of conflicts, many distinctive characters and beautiful lyrical languages, "Romeo & Juliet" depicts a soul-stirring love tragedy. The hero and heroine were born in two feudal families, which had generations of hatred to each other. They fell in love with each other at first sight in a chance encounter but it was impossible for them to get married. Finally they turned to priest Lawrence, who held wedding for them secretly out of sympathy and understanding. But the feudal parent Capulet wanted to betroth his daughter to young noble Paris and compelled them to marry soon. Juliet resorted to priest Laurence again. The priest gave her sleeping pills to pretend dying so as to escape the disaster. Romeo killed Kaipulaite`s nephew Tiboerte in the fighting and suffered the punishment of the exile of Mandoya. Romeo got to know the "death" of his wife and was deeply grieved, and determined to return Verona overnight helding the decision of death for love, and finally took poison and committed suicide at Juliet's side. Waken from the coma, Juliet saw her husband was dead, so she also drank poison and put an end to her own life. The tragical end made the parents of them see the price of feud and were reconciled under the King`s support.
From the outline of this story we can be seen that the two feudal parents of Montague and Kaipulaite represent the declining feudal thought and tradition, they ignore the young people's freedom and love, lead to the hatred and conflict among families and lose their sons and daughters. The Romeo and Juliet represent a new kind of humanism bravely and resourceful struggling with feudal ideas and traditions. Even though the outcome of the struggle is a tragedy, but in return it is the victory of the spirit of humanism and carried forward. Of course, it is the two young protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, who are most and strongest representatives of humanistic spirit. They are created skillfully by the author and artistic characters on whom the author puts his ideal of humanism. The love between Romeo and Juliet is beyond life and death , hevean and hell. This pure, magnificent and solemn love overshadowed countless worldly love.
The spirit of humanism in Europe, 14 to 16 century, was on the upswing period of bourgeois life and values. In today's perspective, there are many limitations of the era. But it uses human as main body, the thoughts core requiring respect human essence and value has not been outdated. Under large area of lost of humanism at present day, we also need to draw mental nutrients from Romeo and Juliet.
